A Tornado Emergency has been issued by the National Weather Service for Kokomo, Indiana, after a ‘confirmed large and destructive tornado was located moving east 30mph’.
The NWS has instructed people to take shelter immediately, as flying debris from the high winds could cause fatal injuries.
The tornado warning is expected to remain in effect until at least 4:00pm, and covers eastern Howard County including Greentown and the Indian Heights neighbourhood of Kokomo.
The warning area is home to around 50,200 residents.
There are reports coming in of serious damage caused by the tornado, including a Starbucks which was ‘entirely displaced’ by the strong winds.
