VLADIMIR PUTIN has been hit by a further blow as only one in 10 Russian soldiers is willing to fight in his war, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has claimed. The SBU wrote on its Telegram channel: “Russian invaders are so afraid of the [Ukraine] armed forces that only 1 in 10 is ready for a direct confrontation with Ukrainian soldiers. “This is evidenced by a new telephone conversation between the occupiers, which was intercepted by the SBU.”

The SBU quoted a soldier saying to his wife during the intercepted telephone call: “Someone gave up on us, damn it. Thirty people from the whole battalion went into battle. “…only 30 people from the whole battalion. Thirty! Can you imagine?” According to the SBU each battalion typically has between 300 and 900 servicemen.

Russia has so far not imposed a general mobilisation to replenish its troops and is instead conscripting young men from the occupied Donbas. One soldier told the Financial Times that he and 200 other troops had refused to return to battle, which he described as the “meat grinder”. This follows the release of a video of a Russian soldier complaining that troops in the Donbas have been left without food or medical supplies and that chronically ill people are being made to fight.

Powerful explosions took place in the occupied city of Nova Kakhovka in the Kherson region. There is no official information on the cause of the explosions in the temporarily occupied settlement. However, users on social networks report that the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed the ammunition depot of the Russian military.

The released videos also show a strong fire and detonation of ammunition. It is reported that the explosions began around 16:40. Then a huge column of thick smoke rose into the sky.

Nova Kakhovka is a city of regional subordination in the Kherson region, in the south of Ukraine. Nova Kakhovka is located on the left bank of the Dnipro River, a few kilometers downstream from the city of Kakhovka.

Since the end of spring, no Ukrainian mobile operator has been operating in occupied Nova Kakhovka, and the invaders have also restricted the activities of Internet providers. Those who stayed in the occupation are reasonably afraid that in case of their departure, houses will be taken away from them, settling the relocated Russians there.

The Russian military actually occupied the Kherson Region during the first week of the war. Hennadiy Lahuta, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, believes that the reason for the rapid occupation of the Kherson region was the huge number of Russian troops who stormed the region. The official is convinced that Ukraine would not have been able to restrain the army of invaders at the beginning of the invasion.
