Making Fire Using a Bow Drill – Bushcraft Skills – Indiana USA by jonesyblues

It’s been about 5-6 months since I used my bow drill and I thought I would see if I could get a fire started in the wintertime. It actually worked really well, and helped that I had super dry tinder and kindling. Got it on the first try, nice feeling when you finally see the flames 🙂

FYI: The fire board is made out of western red cedar and the spindle is made from poplar. I find this a good combination of woods for producing the hot embers needed to make fire. You normally would have the spindle on the inside of the string closer to the bow for better control, but as you can see in the video it also works on the outside.
