Have a Spooky Weekend. | Cup of Jo

What are you up to this weekend? The boys and I have been admiring Halloween decorations in our neighborhood and brainstorming our costumes. (I’m going as the same thing as last year, haha.) Are you planning to dress up? Hope you have a good one — Good Yuntif to all who observe Yom Kippur — and here are a few fun links from around the web…

My sister says Ali Wong’s new comedy special is weird and great.

I’d love to wear these easy pants all fall/winter.

Could you do the museum challenge of staring at one piece of artwork for 10 minutes?

The trailer for Somebody Somewhere season three looks great.

This dress is so casually sexy.

What’s your comfort food?

Simple dinner party games for adults to memorize.

Just re-listened to the This American Life episode Tell Me I’m Fat; it’s so good, highly recommend.

Photo remakes of famous art.

And, most important, here are verified ways to help hurricane victims. We are thinking so much about our readers and their families in the affected areas. Stay safe. xo (NYTimes gift link)

Plus, three reader comments:

Says Megan on what it’s really like to be a teacher: “As a 20+ year high-school English teacher, I wanted to share my favorite wisdom from a teaching friend: ‘Be the person you needed when you were their age.’ I’ve tried to do that with my students. It’s also a great way to have empathy for my past self, who needed a lot but didn’t know how to ask for it.”

Says H.W. on what’s your job: “I know this comment will be buried in this amazing mountain of text, but am I the only one tearing up right now? I feel so buoyed reading about the incredible work you all do, and I want to respond to everyone individually with some variation of ‘That’s so cool! Good for you!’ So, if you need it today: I think you have a very cool job, and it sounds like you’re great at it! I’m also noticing a trend that many, many of us in the CoJ community are in helping fields and find great satisfaction, in spite of challenges. Go team!”

Says Anon: “For every cool job mentioned here (and really, every single one is a cool job!), there are probably five people who didn’t comment because their job isn’t cool and they don’t love it. You don’t have to love your job! Your job doesn’t define you! I am a school admin who works in the nutrition department. While I think the work of feeding thousands of school children is meaningful, it is not my dream job, and I am often bored and frustrated.”
