Peaky Blinders has left a void behind since its finale in 2022, but Guy Ritchie has a new crime drama series out starring Tom Hardy. In terms of crime dramas with period settings, there aren’t that many fantastic options outside Peaky Blinders, which outclasses most shows in terms of its movie star cast. That’s a significant part of why the Peaky Blinders movie is so exciting, especially now that Cillian Murphy is returning to the Tommy Shelby role after his Oscar win for Oppenheimer.
Beyond just its cast, a significant component of what made Peaky Blinders such a masterpiece was its immaculate scriptwriting. The show is Steven Knight’s opus, and it’s rare for a television series to have such a dedicated auteur working to tell stories that are equally entertaining and intelligent. Again, there aren’t many shows on that level, but it’s hard to think of a more ideal candidate than Guy Ritchie to replicate that success. His new series is streaming on Paramount+.
