Spider-Man Receives An A.I. Upgrade

In the Ultimate Universe, Spider-Man wears a picotech suit. The suit, designed by Earth-6160 Tony Stark, boasts a number of differences from the standard Spider-Man costume due to the advanced technology it’s made of. Among these is its ability to transform or be removed at will. In Ultimate Spider-Man #7, Otto Octavius is tasked with studying Spider-Man’s suit and discovers that it has an onboard A.I. assistant that can be programmed with any personality profile. This A.I. is capable of aiding Spider-Man by providing combat strategies and performing life support functions, among other helpful features.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man’s suit also has a built-in A.I. assistant, which Peter names “Karen.” However, Karen is installed by Tony Stark as a “training wheels” protocol while Peter is learning the ropes. Earth-6160 Spider-Man’s A.I. assistant, on the other hand, is only available once the suit isn’t running in safe mode. Moreover, Peter is able to have his own personality mapped onto it, so he is able to essentially talk to himself via his Spider-Man costume. This gives the suit a more personal touch than the MCU suit, as well as a more advanced consciousness to assist Spider-Man in the field.

Spider-Man’s Suit Gives Him A Much-Needed Power-Up

Ultimate Spider-Man talks to his AI after getting knocked down

Spider-Man and Green Goblin didn’t fare well in their fight against Kingpin, so an upgrade to their suits is necessary for them to stand a chance against their opponents. The new A.I. assistant in Earth-6160 Spider-Man’s costume makes up for his lack of experience by talking him through combat situations he might be otherwise unprepared for. It remains to be seen how this feature will help Peter Parker in his coming battles, but it will undoubtedly prove useful. After all, with the Ultimate Universe’s Sinister Six on the horizon, Spider-Man is going to need all the help he can get.

Ultimate Spider-Man #7 is available now from Marvel Comics.
