To celebrate spooky season, Universal Studios Hollywood transforms on select evenings, giving guests quite the fright, with Halloween Horror Nights 2024 kicking off on September 5th. It features eight terrifying haunted houses: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Insidious: The Further, The Weekend: Nightmare Trilogy, Universal Monsters: Eternal Bloodlines, Monstruos 2: The Nightmares of Latin America, Dead Exposure: Death Valley, and A Quiet Place. The event also offers themed food and beverage options that are available exclusively to Halloween Horror Nights guests.
Because of the nature of this event, Universal Studios Hollywood recommends that those under 13 do not attend, stating it may be too intense for young children. In fact, while many of the park’s rides remain open, the ones that are closed are specifically kids’ rides, according to John Murdy, Creative Director for Universal Studios. “A lot of the rides are open, obviously Jurassic World – The Ride and The Mummy. The only rides that aren’t open are the ones that would be specifically kid rides, like The Secret Life of Pets and Despicable Me,” Murdy explains.
While the Studio Lot Tour will remain open during this special event, it is reimagined for Halloween Horror Nights as the “Terror Tram”; the theme for 2024 is “Enter the Blumhouse.” On this adventure, guests will encounter terrifying Blumhouse characters who have taken over the Terror Tram. Face the murderous android M3GAN, The Grabber, and more. Expect moments from other modern Blumhouse classics like The Purge franchise, Happy Death Day, and Freaky, too.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will also be open during Halloween Horror Nights, allowing guests to visit some of their favorite attractions, including Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and Flight of the Hippogriff.
Universal Studios Rides Are Open During Halloween Horror Nights 2024

- Flight of the Hippogriff: A family-friendly coaster that spirals and dives around the pumpkin patch, and swoops past Hagrid’s hut.
- Jurassic World – The Ride: Prepare yourself for the evolution of Jurassic World – The Ride. Enter an immersive land and come face-to-face with the Indominus rex as she stalks you through the jungle. Get caught in the fray as she’s confronted by her archrival, the Tyrannosaurus rex, in an epic battle for the ages.
- Transformers: The Ride-3D: Fusing photo-realistic 3D HD media and elaborate flight simulation technology with cutting edge physical and special effects, TRANSFORMERS™: The Ride-3D is the next generation immersive Theme Park attraction.
- Revenge of The Mummy – The Ride: Digging your nails into the safety rail, you’ll hold on tight as you rush forwards and back on the track, fleeing from the evil Mummy Imhotep. Just as it seems you might’ve escaped, you’ll plunge straight down into a pitch-black abyss with no end in sight. Will you ever see daylight again? Or will you remain sealed inside this tomb forever?
