Starting Monday, facial coverings will be required across the Tristate when Indiana’s mandatory mask order goes into effect. Governors in Ohio and Kentucky also enacted requirements for face coverings to be worn in public spaces to help stop the spread of coronavirus. Nationally, the daily death toll surpassed 1,000 for the second straight day on Wednesday and hospitalizations were again peaking, USA TODAY reported. The paralyzing coronavirus pandemic, beaten back by New York and a few other states, has showed little sign of easing nationwide. Here’s what to know about each state’s mask requirements:OhioOn Thursday, Ohio’s statewide mask mandate went into effect. That’s not a change for about 60% of the state’s residents, including those in Hamilton, Butler and Clermont counties, who were required to wear masks because of rapid COVID-19 spread there. What to know: Adults over the age of 10 must wear masks. Masks need to be worn at indoor locations outside a residence and outdoors when people are unable to keep six feet of social distance with people not in your household. Masks also must be worn when waiting for, riding in or driving public transportation and rideshares. Exemptions include those with a medical condition or disability; those who are actively exercising or playing sports; those who are officiants at religious services; those who are actively involved in public safety and those who are eating or drinking. The penalty for violating a public health order is a second-degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to 90 days in jail or a fine of not more than $750, according to state law.[ Get alerts on weather, traffic, breaking news and more on your phone. Andy Beshear said the mask mandate will last 30 days from July 10 and will be enforced by health departments. What to know: Masks are required for anyone in a retail environment, a grocery store and any other indoor or outdoor space where one can’t be 6 feet from others. Exceptions include: kids under age 5, people with breathing problems and people exercising while social distancing. A person in a room alone or with their family at home doesn’t need to wear a mask. Other exceptions include anyone actively eating or drinking, anyone with a disability that makes wearing a mask unsafe, anyone working out in a gym and practicing social distancing and anyone who is giving a speech to an audience at a safe distance. People violating the order will receive a warning for the first offense, a $50 fine for the second offense, a $75 fine for the third offense and $100 fine for each subsequent offense. IndianaGov.
