Besides positively loving ’80s and ’90s aesthetics, the Barbiecore trend is something straight out of my dreams. It touches several fashion decades but mostly taps into the current ’00s trend while adding pinks, ruffles, puffiness, lace, and everything you’d imagine when you think of our girl Barbie riding in her pink convertible Corvette with her BF Ken.

Whether it’s because of the live-action “Barbie” movie coming in 2023 with Margot Robbie as Barbie and dreamboat Ryan Gosling as Ken, Barbiecore has become a legit movement.

What Is Barbiecore?

Like a lot of trends, Barbiecore (and really every “core” trend) comes straight out of TikTok. And what Barbiecore is — well — lots and lots (and lots) of pink. Literally 👏 every 👏 single 👏 shade 👏 — bubblegum, light, hot, neon — of pink. And then a big heaping of girly-girl flare.

I firmly acknowledge these fashion nuggets coming from TikTok aren’t super unique and will probably die out relatively quickly. The one major thing, though, is that they’re all so much fun. And there’s nothing that says you can’t keep your Barbie-esque outfits and products going full speed ahead even longer. While it lasts, Barbiecore is my new daily theme for everything that even has its own theme song: Aqua’s “Barbie Girl.”

For Barbiecore fashion, it’s all about the early ’00s: baby tees, low-rise jeans, velour tracksuits, UGG boots, knee-high boots and tennis skirts, but I promise if you wear anything pink, you’re nailing Barbiecore.
