Gyles Brandreth, a royal author, former politician and friend of Prince Philip, writes in Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait that the monarch was believed to have had bone marrow cancer during the last years of her life. In other royal news, the Queen Consort Camilla has appointed a number of close friends as her new Companions to accompany Her Majesty on key occasions. Among the six chosen is the mother of the socialite who first introduced Prince Harry to his future wife Meghan Markle. The group of women will take on a role similar to the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Ladies in Waiting.
