You truly can find a bit of everything for your home at Wayfair, but in case what you find isn’t right you may be wondering how Wayfair’s return policy works and whether to expect a Wayfair return fee.
We appreciate the convenience of shopping at stores that offer the best return policies. But Wayfair is unique, in that you’re likely buying a large item. It’s not like shipping back a few T-shirts. When making larger purchases for your home, it’s especially important to consider in advance if a store charges return or restocking fees, and whether or not they accept a return without a receipt. Whether you need to return a rug that you just didn’t like the color of, or some tiles because you ordered too many, here’s how to return items at Wayfair.
Does Wayfair Accept Returns?
Yes, Wayfair accepts returns for most items. In order for your return to be processed your item must be:
- Undamaged and in its original condition.
- If your item arrived disassembled, you must return the item in the same disassembled condition.
- In its original packaging. If the box was damaged in shipping you can use another box that is similar. All return boxes must be no longer than 108 inches. Your shipment weight cannot be over 150 pounds due to FedEx/UPS policy.
How Do I Return an Item to Wayfair?
To return an item to Wayfair, you must log in to your account and visit the “My Orders” section. You will clearly see a list of all your purchased items and you will be able to initiate your return here. Specific instructions on returns depend on the type of item and how the item was originally shipped to your home.
- Items Delivered by UPS or FedEX
- Find your order on the ‘My Orders’ section.
- Select which return option and refund method you prefer by filling out the online form.
- Check your email for your shipping label.
- Print and attach the shipping label to the package.
- Drop off your item at FedEx or UPS drop-off location in your area, or call to schedule a pickup by reaching out to a UPS or FedEx service agent.
- Upon receipt at the Returns Center your refund will be initiated.
- Items Delivered by Special Carrier (Large, Heavy or Fragile Items)
- Find your order on the ‘My Orders’ section.
- Select which return option and refund method you prefer by filling out the online form.
- Check your email to confirm the return.
- Wayfair will coordinate a special carrier to come to pick up the item from your home.
- Once the item is received at the Returns Center your refund will be initiated.
How Long Do You Have to Return Items at Wayfair?
When you view your orders, you’ll be able to see which ones are eligible for returns.
- Most items must be returned within 30 days of delivery.
- If you purchased your item during the holiday gift season (between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31) you may have an extended return deadline (usually until Jan. 31).
- Mattress purchases come with a 100-night free trial.
Does Wayfair Have Return Fees?
Yes, you will be required to pay return fees. Expect to pay the return shipping costs, which will be deducted from your refund. Here is an example from the return of a recent remodeling material purchase.
Return shipping fees can vary and depend on the location of return, size, weight and return method chosen. And they can be significant for heavier items.
In addition, if you paid shipping or assembly fees when you initiated your order, you will not receive a refund for these charges. This might include the $4.99 delivery charge on orders under $35, upgraded shipping charges and delivery service upgrades.
For large appliance returns, you may also be subject to a manufacturer restocking fee.
When Will I Receive My Refund?
Once your return is received by the Return Center, refunds generally take five to seven days, or up to two weeks to process.
Which Items Are Exempt From Wayfair’s Return Policy?
You won’t be able to return any of the following exempt items:
- Clearance Items / Open Box items
- Gift Cards
- Personalized Items
- Bundled items at discounted rates, unless you return the entire bundle
- Live plants
- Swatches
- Items marked Non-Returnable on the sale page
