Leak: the Google Pixel 8 will be more expensive than its predecessor

Both the Pixel 6 and 7 had $600 price tags at launch, both the Pixel 6 Pro and 7 Pro were $900. So, how much will the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro cost? Well, the Pixel 7a already set a precedent of being $50 higher than the 6a, so it may be wishful thinking to say that the Pixel 8-series will stick to the $600 and $900 price points.

Yogesh Brar reports that the Pixel 8 will be $650 or $700, which is a price hike of $50-$100 compared to the 2022 model. This is for the same base memory configuration with 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage.

The Pixel 8 will bring some improvements like a brighter 120Hz display (though slightly smaller). Apparently, it will also feature an ultrasonic fingerprint reader instead of an optical one.

Brar also confirms the leaked specs so far, including changes to the battery system – a slightly bigger 4,485mAh with 24W wired and 12W Qi wireless, compared to 4,355mAh at 20/20W charging (note that non-Qi wireless charging may go up to 20W according to some sources). It’s not clear whether the Pixel 8 Pro will get a price bump as well – the old Pro models already were $300 more than their vanilla siblings. Keep in mind that these are just the US prices, the situation in other regions may be different.

Brar notes that we can expect the Pixel 8 series to launch in early October (just like the Pixel 7 series last year).
