The new Netflix series 1899 has recently taken the world by storm, quickly becoming one of the most popular shows on the platform. It’s a mind-bending sci-fi adventure that keeps the audience guessing from start to finish, which is why so many viewers are praising the show.

Though the second series of 1899 hasn’t yet been confirmed, there are several questions that the first season leaves unanswered. From the character’s roles to the triangle, there’s clearly a future plan for the story, and audiences are dying to know how it’s going to end.

What’s With The Triangles?

Throughout 1899 season 1, triangles played a huge role – though their importance has never been fully explained. From the digits on the mysterious devices to the pyramid that Daniel uses to wake up Maura, they’re seemingly everywhere.

Triangles (or specifically the triquetra) played a large role in 1899’s creators’ previous project, Dark, which signified the closed time loop in the cave and the connection between different worlds. With the number 3 playing a similar importance in the new Netflix show, many audiences are theorizing that this connection is more than just a coincidence, but that question remains unanswered for now.

Why Would Maura Create The Simulation?

1899‘s final episode saw audiences confronted with a disturbing fact – Maura was actually the simulation’s creator all along. Of course, viewers still don’t know if her father’s word can be trusted, given his mysterious background, but it definitely seems possible.

1899 is one of Netflix’s greatest mysteries, and there are still so many things that audiences don’t know. The truth behind Maura’s father’s claims is still up in the air, but if he’s telling the truth about her involvement in the project, Maura has a lot of explaining to do.

Who Are The Passengers?

A brief scene in the 1899‘s season finale suggests that Maura has trapped the other passengers in her simulation, but their true identities and the reasons for their inclusion are still completely unknown. The biggest questions remain whether the passengers actually know each other in reality, or if they’re just random strangers.

This story’s aspect opens up so many possibilities for the show’s later seasons, as these characters that audiences know and love could actually be totally different people, which would be a really exciting way to explore their backstories.

What Is The Purpose Of Project Prometheus?

The closing shot of 1899’s first season features a genius TV needle-drop that reveals the truth behind Prometheus – it’s actually a spaceship in the year 2099. There have been several hints throughout the show about the simulation’s true purpose. Maura seemed to suggest this was some sort of psychological experiment caused by her father, but it still isn’t crystal clear.

Despite Maura’s claims that her father is at fault, Daniel seemed to suggest that Henry isn’t in control anymore. The real purpose of Prometheus is still unknown, proving that there’s still plenty of explaining to do in Season 2.

Why Is Daniel Trying To Wake Maura?

Long before the show even starts, Daniel has been traveling through the simulations in an attempt to wake Maura up because her brother Ciaran has taken control of the simulation. But Ciaran’s intentions are still a secret from the audience, leaving them unaware exactly why Maura needs to be awoken.

For the majority of season 1, the viewer was led to believe that Maura’s father was the true villain. But that doesn’t seem to be the case, so audiences still don’t quite know the purpose of Daniel’s journey.

Daniel has journeyed through several different simulations since Ciaran took control, but it’s still unclear how he managed to do this. He’s clearly one of 1899’s smartest characters, but the simulation is under constant surveillance from Henry (and likely Ciaran), so it shouldn’t have been possible.

The finale reveals that Daniel made it to this current simulation by stowing away on the Prometheus, likely hiding away after the last attempt was aborted. But his methods of escape for the other “dozens” of times that Project Prometheus has been stopped and restarted are still a mystery that should be explained.

Why Did Maura Lose Her Memories If She’s The Creator?

One crucial question that’s keeping audiences wondering is why Maura has no memories of the real world. At first, people believed that Henry deleted her memories because he’s in charge, but if Maura is really The Creator, her lack of memory raises some interesting questions about her true role in the project.

It suggests that Maura inserted herself into the simulation, but if so, audiences still need to know why she would delete her own memories, and why Daniel is trying so desperately to restore them. This area is totally unclear, and will certainly be explored in further seasons.

Are There Other Simulations Out There?

1899’s finale has a brilliant plot twist, revealing that the entire story has actually been taking place in a simulation, hosted in the year 2099. But since that was the season’s final shot, there was no time to actually explain how this technology is operating.

If this technology is common knowledge in the year 2099, there may be other simulations out there with other people stuck and exploited within them. And if this is the only one, it suggests that Maura is much more than a regular member of society.

Will Maura Wake Everybody Else Up?

Now that Maura has escaped from the simulation, she likely can wake the others and bring them into the real world. However, it is unclear if future seasons will continue to take place in stimulation or reality.

Of course, it’s possible that Maura won’t be able to wake the others. Perhaps that ability lies solely with Ciaran, in which case Maura will likely have to take him down from the real world, and the simulation will probably be rebooted again.

What is Henry’s Role In This Story?

Injections just on the table in 1899

One of the few things that weren’t explained in 1899’s finale was the role of Henry Singleton in the simulation. He’s been observing Maura and Daniel throughout their journey, trying to acquire their son and his mysterious pyramid, but his actual intentions have remained a mystery from start to finish. Audiences still don’t know whose side he is on.

If he’s allied with Ciaran, that could cause some serious issues for those who remain trapped in the simulation. He’s one of the few people in there with memories of the real world, so he’s almost certainly going to become a more important character in the story’s later installments. Audiences still need to know where his true motives lie – whether he’s trying to keep Project Prometheus alive, or escape and burn it to the ground.
