The Mandalorian season 3 trailer breaks the viewership record for a Disney+ Star Wars series trailer within the first 24 hours of its release. The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal as the titular Mandalorian warrior, Din Djarin, and features Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Omid Abtahi, and Katee Sackhoff among its cast. The Disney+ is set to return after concluding season 2 in 2021 when Grogu and Mando went their separate ways as Master Jedi Luke Skywalker recruits the Force-sensitive creature. However, the two unexpectedly reunited in The Book of Boba Fett, and the trailer seemingly hints at their continued father-son-like relationship, alongside Mando’s exploration and conflicts in Mandalore.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, The Mandalorian season 3 trailer has smashed the previous record for most views within the first 24 hours of a Disney+ Star Wars show’s trailer release. The Mandalorian season 3 trailer racked up a staggering 83.5 million views within the first day of its release. That number easily dethroned the previous record holder, Obi-Wan Kenobi, which reportedly garnered roughly 58 million views over that same time frame.

The Mandalorian season 3 trailer premiered during halftime of the Dallas Cowboys vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL Wild Card playoff game on ESPN and was simultaneously released on Star Wars‘ YouTube and social media channels.

What To Expect From The Mandalorian Season 3

It’s been a long wait between The Mandalorian season 2 and its upcoming third season, but its two-year hiatus was filled with other Star Wars content, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor. When The Mandalorian season 3 premieres on March 1, it will break the show’s elongated absence of more than two years. Since season 2, Din appeared in The Book of Boba Fett, wherein the helmeted hero was reunited with Grogu amid a chaotic season-finale battle on Tatooine between Boba’s crew and the Pyke Syndicate. The Book of Boba Fett finale ended with Din and Grogu flying away to their new adventure in their newly upgraded Naboo starfighter.

The Mandalorian season 3 could pick up on the storylines teased during season 2. The New Republic arrested Moff Gideon in the season 2 finale after he was defeated in combat by Din in a rescue mission for Grogu. Din winning the darksaber from Gideon will cause a further divide between the lead character and the former ruler of Mandalore, Bo Katan. Din and Bo combined their efforts to save the child, but they still have fundamental disagreements over what it means to be a Mandalorian. Din removed his helmet in the series, which he fessed up to with The Armorer in The Book of Boba Fett. The only way to redeem himself in the old ways of Mandalore is by bathing in the planet’s underground waters, which was previously decimated by the Empire.

The Mandalorian has already revealed through its trailers that Din Djarin will return to Mandalore in season 3, but action sequences on other planets have also been revealed, including one with many Mandalorians on the planet Nevarro, of which Greef Karga is now Magistrate. An abundance of unfinished plot lines exist for The Mandalorian season 3 to tackle, including Order 66 flashbacks, and the record viewership of the season 3 trailer suggests that the next installment of new episodes will be watched in droves. The Mandalorian stands as perhaps the most well-renowned Star Wars project since the Disney acquisition, and the story of Din, Grogu, and the New Republic will continue on March 1.
