Rihanna has spent the bulk of the last week dressing up for dinners out in Paris and New York City. But the singer gave the paparazzi a look at her more casual maternity style yesterday when she was photographed out in New York City’s Soho neighborhood on a Target run. (Celebrities, they’re just like us!) Rihanna wore what appears to be a form-fitting white bodysuit that put her figure on display, with half-unbuttoned jeans. She accessorized with sunglasses, a Yankees hat, layered necklaces, and a brown coat draped over her shoulders.
Rihanna hasn’t explicitly confirmed she’ll be attending next Monday’s Met Gala, but she did spark speculation with her Paris trip and her curious choice to wear a vintage Fendi patchwork jacket designed by Karl Lagerfeld there. The Met Gala this year is honoring the late designer with its “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” theme.
As for her maternity dressing philosophy, she spoke to Bustle in March 2022 about how during her first pregnancy, her aim was to be “maybe…rebellious? When I saw women dress during their pregnancy [in the past], I’d think that that was the only way. So I challenged myself to push it further and really just have fun with [maternity style]. Because there’s nothing more fun than a challenge for me. Like that’s where I get creative. That’s where I’m forced to come up with new ideas and new ways to make it work.”
“It’s been me personally saying, ‘I’m not going to buy maternity clothes. I’m not gonna buy maternity pants, jeans, dresses, or [do] whatever society told me to do before,’” she added.
